The modern equipment and setup of the ENT Department (staffed by external physicians) enables it to offer a broad surgical spectrum in this specialist area. A children's ward attached to the department and close collaboration with the Clinic for Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine allow it to offer optimal treatment to children of all ages, either as in-patients or on an out-patient basis.

In addition to standard ENT interventions (e.g. adenotomies and tonsillectomies) the clinical areas of focus of the ENT Department is in nasal surgery – including the performance of plastic reconstructive surgery at the hospital – and in endoscopically assisted surgery of the paranasal sinuses (e.g. in conditions such as polyposis nasi).

Further surgical areas of focus are microsurgery of the middle ear with interventions to improve hearing (reconstruction of the eardrum and ossicles of the middle ear) and auricular plastic surgery. The surgical spectrum of the department also includes surgery to the salivary glands and soft tissues of the neck.

Sleep-related breathing disorders can be diagnosed in the Sleep Laboratory of the St. Franziskus Hospital and treated surgically, if necessary, in the ENT Department. A CO2 laser is also used for microsurgical operations on pathological changes to the larynx and vocal chords.
