The Clinic for Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the St. Franziskus Hospital consists of two departments:
The Department of General Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine and the Department of Neonatology and Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine. The Clinic is a specialist medical facility as well as a Neonatal Centre.

More than 5000 newborns, children and young adults are examined and treated as in-patients in the two departments. We also treat around 2500 patients on an out-patient basis.
In addition to all conditions of general paediatrics and neonatology, we also treat diseases relating to the following specialist medical areas:

  • Allergology
  • Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Cardiology
  • Nephrology
  • Neuropaediatrics
  • Rheumatology

In order to optimally treat all our young patients, there is close collaboration with the various specialist departments of the St. Franziskus Hospital and external colleagues (gastroenterology, ENT, paediatric orthopaedics, nuclear medicine, radiology, paediatric audiology, social workers, psychologists, child and adolescent psychiatry). This enables us to ensure comprehensive care of practically all sick children and adolescents from birth to the end of their 18th year. Physiotherapists with Bobath and Voijta training support our therapeutic efforts.
Out-patient examinations are possible at any time with a referral and appointment, e.g.:

  • Diseases of the kidneys or of the urinary tract
  • Children and adolescents with incontinence problems (enuresis and encopresis)
  • Clarification and treatment for raised blood pressure
  • Growth disorders and thyroid disorders
  • Systemic diseases such as collagenosis
  • Seizures and neurological conditions

Our professionally supervised playroom with an interesting programme of activities is available the whole day to all children who are admitted to our Clinic as in-patients.

To ensure your children miss as little schooling as possible, we work closely with the Helen Keller School (special school for sick children), which provides teaching staff for all types of schooling.

Once a month our Clinic clown Fidelidad comes to visit the children. Using gentle and loud noises, he makes playful contact with the youngsters and helps reduce some of the anxiety and worries of our patients.

The whole team – nursing staff and physicians – do our best to address the needs and concerns of your children so that you can be confident your child is in the best of hands with us.
